Tree Planting Dream

Internet Helping with Tree Planting At Polmont Community Hub,       we are passionate about trees. We consider their importance in all our activities, from reducing paper usage to supporting initiatives that help plant trees. Our preferred search engine is Ecosia, which proudly displays on their homepage that they have planted over 235,907,879 trees. While we haven't implemented our newsletter mailing plans yet, we intend to install EcoSend on our website as our preferred version of Mailchimp. Our Sustainability Manager is a member of the Green Runners community, where he promotes the "tees not trees" initiative, encouraging participants at running events to plant a tree instead of receiving a t-shirt. Very soon, we will be in a position to start planting numerous trees around the Hub, and we aim to expand this effort to our communities in Upper and Lower Braes. This initiative is part of the Braes Friendly Growers' ambitious tree planting plan, inspired by r...

Herb Garden

Our Herb Garden Our dedicated volunteers have been collaborating with the BFGS to design various aspects of our open green space. Surprisingly, we overlooked the inclusion of herbs in our planning phases as of July 2025, except for their role in our sensory walkways. Yoga Scotland conducted teacher training over the summer and graciously left a thank-you note for our friendly volunteers, along with a letter describing some potted herbs they had placed at the front of the hub. Technically, our staff are not supposed to accept gifts in kind; however, this situation felt different since it was for our community garden. The note read: "Thank you for your help with our course. These are all culinary herbs: mint, cat mint, oregano, lemon balm (which is nice in tea), wild strawberry, and feverfew (a good treatment for migraines). In a small pot, you will also find evening primrose; it takes a huff when moved but will perk up afterward." We absolutely loved this gift, as i...

meadows protection

Meadowgrass We're gearing up for National Meadows Day on Saturday, July 5th! How would you feel if a historical building like Edinburgh Castle were reduced to rubble and then replaced with a lackluster replica? It wouldn’t be the same, would it? The same idea applies to meadows. Once they’re gone, they’re gone. Unfortunately, their destruction is ongoing. We started our effort to protect them with “No Mow May.” That’s why we’re calling for irreplaceable meadows to be added to the Irreplaceable Habitats list. #NationalMeadowsDay is a celebration of meadows, the incredible habitats they create, and our deep-rooted connection to them—one that spans generations. For centuries, people have cared for meadows, but today they are more at risk than ever. We want to encourage everyone to help protect our remaining meadows by officially recognizing them as Irreplaceable Habitats. Add your voice to the cause! Meadows are truly magnificent places full of life. They support a...
