community choices changing room project
**Rejuvenation and Conversion Project for Our Community Hub**
PCHub currently has a changing room and shower area for both men and women, but these facilities are rarely used, if at all.
We are excited to propose the rejuvenation and conversion of the changing room and its attached shower room into a multipurpose space that will significantly benefit our community hub. Our vision is to transform these facilities into a welcoming area that not only meets our current needs but also accommodates new initiatives, such as a foot health clinic, which a company has expressed interest in starting at the hub.
**Project Objectives:**
1. **Repairing and Preparation**: We will begin by repairing the existing fixtures and upcycling some of the dated items. Following this, we will prepare the room, including the walls, pipework, and ceiling, ensuring a solid foundation for the upgrades. A new fals ceiling would improve insulation and lighting
2. **Wall Treatment**: The shower room, measuring 1 metre by 2.5 metres and 2.5 metres high, will require approximately 20 square metres of wall treatment. We are considering both wet wall options and traditional tiles. While wet wall may be more cost-effective, we recognize that tiled walls provide a durable and aesthetically pleasing finish. For tiled walls, materials will cost approximately £50 per square metre, amounting to a total of £1,000. Professional installation is estimated at £110 per square metre, totaling £3,200.
3. **Ceiling and Lighting**: We will install new ceiling panels and energy-efficient LED spotlights in both the shower and changing rooms, removing the existing lighting to enhance the ambiance functionality. And energy efficiency
4. **Wash Hand Basin Installation**: A pedestal wash hand basin will be installed at a cost of £500, along with taps priced at £180. This will provide essential facilities for the foot health clinic and ensure proper hygiene.
5. **Storage Solutions**: To promote organization and accessibility, we plan to include two workspace lockers at £200 each.
6. **Other Necessary Upgrades**: This project will also address waterproofing with a new false ceiling in the shower room, costing around £200 for materials. The changing room will also receive a similar treatment, with an estimated material cost of £800.
7. **Labour Costs**: We anticipate that it will take two tradespeople approximately four days to complete the work. With a rate of £50 per hour, this labor cost will total around £3,200. We hope to engage volunteers from our community to assist, potentially reducing this expense.
Overall, our project manager's estimate for completing this rejuvenation and conversion project is approximately £8,680. However, we are committed to sourcing many materials and labor from our dedicated volunteers and local workshops, which will allow us to significantly lower costs and foster a spirit of community engagement.
We are excited about the interest from Braveheart Top Toes for the foot clinic, which will play a vital role in keeping our elderly and individuals with mobility challenges more active. This initiative not only promises to enhance their physical health but also aims to alleviate pressure on the NHS, which is currently struggling with long waiting lists for foot care at local health centers.
In addition, our active outdoors team is gearing up to launch walking, running, and cycling groups from the hub. These groups will not only promote physical fitness but also foster social connections and a sense of community. The facilities we plan to enhance will serve as essential storage for equipment as well as provide spaces for washing and drying.
By revitalizing the changing room and shower areas, we will create an inviting environment that caters to a diverse range of needs. This upgrade will promote not only physical health and well-being but also mental well-being, as social interaction and community involvement have been shown to positively impact mental health.
Together, we can transform this space into a resource that truly embodies our community's interests, fostering inclusivity and encouraging togetherness at every level.
