Falkirk East Development Trust

Falirk east development Energy trust A group of individuals began the process of starting a trust locally, calling it -FEDET, they pledged to support an Energy & RetroFit sub-network in East Falkirk that brings together community groups working in community energy, building retrofit, and sustainable heating solutions to pool resources and work towards a sustainable energy future for all. The group began working out of polmont community Hub, innitially on a Community Energy Plan for Braes and grangemouth areas of Falkirk East. They believed could act as a pilot for future community energy plans for eventually - the whole district of Falkirk. It is fair to say that SME`s such as polmont community hub among other larger and smaller groups and individuals in the falkirk area, have been fighting a socio-political landscape that was tilted in the favour of housing developers, gas boilers, poor construction methods, for energy production storage and management, The waste culture is ...

Water Security

PCHub wants to be a big sponge? On May 11, 2025, we at PCHub were in the process of designing resilience-building initiatives for the two acres of community land we are now managing. Our sustainability manager, along with the community council, has started planning. We are currently developing our strategy for water storage and usage. The first 12 days of May were sadly rainless, with SEPA starting to post concerns, as some of Scotland's rivers  were unseasonably low  The management team and the growers fully support...

mycology and zero waste!

Hedgehog Mushrooms Our Sustainability Manager, Kenny (who is quite a fun guy), recently had a conversation with a local mycology expert. Kenny had discovered some fungi in the Braes Friendly Growers planter and, upon meeting Elliot, he immediately showed him a photo of it, asking for its identification. Kenny's Seek app suggested it was a mica cap. This sparked an amazing discussion about soil fertilization, food growing, permaculture, gardenising, soil improvement, and the "wood wide web." Elliot is a true genius in this field and offered to help us grow some experimental mushrooms. When he delivered the spores, Kenny took the opportunity to interview him for clarification on how our collaboration will develop.  The interview -  The Mushroom Chronicles: An Interview on Mycology Between Fun guy Friends Kenny: Hey Elliot, thanks for meeting up! I'm still buzzing from our last chat about those mushrooms. What’s the latest with your mycology adventures? Elliot: No prob...
